Lake Iola Property Owners,

Photos from last week when the first installment of fish went into the lake.    Eddie was really pleased with the size of them.  This correspondence is only going out via email and onto the blog, not spending $$ on stamps.   Maybe share with your neighbors, (at least those who have paid)?  Good opportunity to remind them I'd like to have everybody's email address.   The blog address is  http://lakeiolapropertyowners.blogspot.com/  . BTW, the following is a list of folks from whom we've not rec'd a check yet.  Although I have sent a follow up reminder,  I know for sure there are a couple of folks for whom this is simply an oversight.  I'm hoping that's the case with most of them.   If you have a chance to chat with them, a friendly reminder that all the lake owners enjoy the lake, and all the lake owners will appreciate sharing the responsibility for caring for the lake.  Even if someone can't sent $150, any participation would be appreciated.

Hi Vicky

Please find a couple of pictures of the actual fish we added to the lake plus a picture of the newspaper add in the Dade City Banner from years ago that we talked about yesterday.

Just a thought but it might be worth posting on the blog or in the emails you send out that it is a federal offense to remove or kill these fish once they are in the lake. Anyone that sees people removing the fish from the lake should call the FWC.

March 2015 Fish Collection Update

Dear Lake Iola Property Owners,

 

Thank you so much to the following 30 families who have sent contributions toward purchasing fish for aquatic weed control in our lake.  If each of the 48 property owners sent the requested $150, we would have  $ 7200.  We so far have $4575.   Those of you who haven’t had a chance to get your check in the mail yet, please get to it as soon as you can.  Send checks made out to Lake Iola Property Owners, care of Vicky Johnson at 31448 Reed Rd, Dade City, FL 33523. 

 

In conversation with Eddie Flicker, Fla. Fish and Wildlife Commission recommended we purchase the largest fish available, which would be 10 to 12 inch or larger.  The fish supplier does not usually have many fish over 12 inches  but will try to get us as many as they can.  FWC says it is much better to get the fish in ahead of the growing season, so  Eddie will make efforts to purchase the first installment of fish ASAP.  We will monitor the grass, and FWC will permit adding more as necessary.   

 

The goal is to maintain a healthy lake system with several desirable grass species like eel grass and others, which we currently have, while keeping the hydrilla and southern niad reduced to a small  percentage of the lake environment.

 

We will continue to monitor the lake with FWC,  and  hope the funds we are now collecting will be sufficient for several years to add carp as their numbers decrease due to their natural life span and predation by large eagles and hawks, along with some big bass and a few gators  from time to time.   Our last collection was in 2011, so if you contributed then, your contribution averaged out to $50 a year to help keep our lake beautiful, which seems to be a worthwhile investment.

One final note:  If you have received this letter US Mail, we don’t have your email address.  It would be SO HELPFUL if you would send Vicky your email address so we could communicate with you that way.  It is so much easier and less expensive.  Every time we have to mail with stamps, it’s one or two fewer fish that could be munching away in the lake.
